Sutter Health Plus announces today a $50,000 donation to Sacramento Covered, a local not-for-profit organization that helps underserved people in the Sacramento area maintain healthy lifestyles.

“Many people in our community struggle to find access to basic health care and wholesome meals—critical components to living healthy,” said Monica Majors, vice president of sales and marketing at Sutter Health Plus. “We want to do our part to support organizations that help people find medical coverage, nutritious food and health education.”

The $50,000 donation from Sutter Health Plus will help Sacramento Covered enroll low-income families for health benefits through Medi-Cal and receive nutrition assistance and education through the CalFresh Program. Eligibility requirements for the two programs are similar, and Sacramento Covered will use the donation from Sutter Health Plus to conduct education and outreach to 5,000 households.

“Food insecurity can be a barrier for families to make healthy lifestyle choices and maintain good health,” said Kelly Bennett-Wofford, executive director of Sacramento Covered. “We want people to know that when they qualify for Medi-Cal they can also sign up for CalFresh at the same time—greatly expanding their food budgets for the month.”
