Special Enrollment Period for Individuals and Families

Apr 26, 2021 | Access, Affordability

After the year-mark of the COVID-19 pandemic, many people in our community are continuing to face economic impacts, including job loss and access to employer-sponsored health benefits.

Individuals who recently experienced a change in life—such as the loss of a job or health insurance or even the birth of a baby—don’t have to wait until the next open enrollment period to find healthcare coverage. Special enrollment allows qualifying individuals to shop and enroll for Sutter Health Plus individual and family plans now. Additionally, Sutter Health Plus considers being uninsured as a qualifying event to enroll in an individual and family plan now through December 31, 2021.

Sutter Health Plus offers four IFP options, one plan per metal level—Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze—and mirror Covered California plan designs.

With Sutter Health Plus, members enjoy convenient features, such as access to Sutter Walk-In Care, video visits, a 24/7 nurse advice line, health coaching programs, an online self-service portal, and a single number to call for assistance with all aspects of care and coverage. The Sutter Health Plus provider network in the greater Sacramento, Central Valley and Bay Area communities includes many of Sutter’s affiliated physician groups and hospitals that consistently rank among California’s highest performers. Many network providers use the Sutter Electronic Health Record to instantly review and share critical information with other Sutter clinicians allowing them to deliver highly coordinated care.

Visit sutterhealthplus.org/individual-family to view the service area, plans and rate guides, and read detailed benefit information. To qualify for coverage during the special enrollment period, individuals must meet one of the qualifying or triggering events listed on pages 10 and 11 of the Individual and Family Plan Enrollment Form or be uninsured.

Other Health Insurance Choices
If a Sutter Health Plus member loses coverage offered through their employer, they may qualify to continue coverage through COBRA, Cal-COBRA. People may also qualify for low-cost health insurance through Covered California, Medi-Cal, or Medicare.
