Sutter Health Plus Network Hospitals Honored for High Quality Stroke, Cardiac Care

Twenty-three hospital campuses in the Sutter Health Plus network recently received recognition from the Get With The Guidelines® program.

The American Stroke Association applauded 21 Sutter Health Plus network hospital campuses for providing a high level of stroke care. Additionally, ten hospital campuses received recognition from the American Heart Association for high-quality cardiac care.

Stroke Care
Hospital campuses in the Sutter Health Plus network that earned a Get With The Guidelines® – Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award include:

To qualify for these honor roll recognitions, the hospitals met quality measures developed to reduce the time between the patient’s arrival at the hospital and treatment.

Additionally, 19 hospital campuses in the Sutter Health Plus network earned a place on the Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll, which promotes evidence-based stroke care for patients with diabetes. The network campuses are:

Sutter Amador Hospital earned the Bronze Get With The Guidelines® – Stroke Rural Recognition, a new accolade that accounts for the varied patient care dynamics faced by rural hospitals.

Finally, Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento and Sutter Roseville Medical Center each earned a place on the Advanced Therapy Honor Roll. This is the fourth year in a row for Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento and the first year for Sutter Roseville Medical Center. This accolade recognizes participating hospitals that met timeliness targets for the removal of blood clots from the brain under image guidance. The procedure, known as endovascular thrombectomy is not performed at all hospitals.

Cardiology Care
Five hospital campuses in the Sutter Health Plus network also received recognition from the American Heart Association for their outstanding performance in the treatment of patients presenting to the hospital with an ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) – a specific kind of heart attack that can be caused by coronary artery disease.

  • St. Joseph’s Medical Center– Stockton – Gold Plus
  • Sutter Delta Medical Center – Antioch– Gold Plus
  • Sutter California Pacific Medical Center Van Ness (San Francisco) – Silver
  • Sutter California Pacific Medical Center Davies (San Francisco) – Silver  
  • Sutter Mills-Peninsula Medical Center – Burlingame – Bronze Plus

Additionally, Dominican Hospital – Santa Cruz earned Gold Plus and Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento earned Silver Plus recognition for the high-quality treatment of heart failure. Both earned a place on the Heart Failure Honor Roll and the Heart Failure Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll, which promotes evidence-based care for patients with both conditions.

Three hospital campuses earned “resuscitation” awards for treating in-hospital cardiac arrest and ultimately helping to improve survival rates. Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital in Palo Alto earned Gold (Neonate/Infant Population and Newly Born Population), and Silver (Pediatric Population) for resuscitation. El Camino Hospital, with campuses in Los Gatos and Mountain View, also earned Silver (Adult Population) for resuscitation.

Finally, St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Stockton earned Gold Plus for its commitment to offering rapid, research-based care to people experiencing a specific type of heart attack known as a non-ST elevation myocardial infarction, or NSTEMI.
