Sutter Health Plus, a not-for-profit HMO in Northern California, announces the appointment of Brian Fellner as CEO, effective July 16, 2018. Fellner, who currently serves as the health plan’s chief financial officer, will report to the Sutter Health Plus Board of Directors and Phil Jackson, Sutter Health’s CEO of Health Plan Products.

“I’m honored for the opportunity to lead such an incredibly talented and engaged team of individuals who are passionate about serving our members,” says Fellner. “With our continued focus and discipline, I believe Sutter Health Plus is uniquely positioned to continue to bring value to our communities through our high-quality network, comprehensive products, and exceptional service.”

Fellner has nearly 30 years of industry experience. His previous leadership experience includes oversight for sales, marketing, legal and compliance, and healthcare economics. He brings with him a track record of financial and operational excellence.

Fellner joined Sutter Health Plus in May 2017 as CFO. Prior to that, he served as CFO at Blue Cross of Idaho, where he developed pricing, product, and market strategy. He formerly held the offices of executive vice president and CFO at Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota; senior vice president and chief of staff at American Enterprise Group in Des Moines, Iowa; and vice president at Great-West Financial (Great-West Healthcare) in Denver, Colorado. Fellner is a certified public accountant and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Colorado and a Master of Science degree in accounting.

“Sutter Health Plus is an important part of Sutter Health’s strategic vision to transform health care in Northern California. Brian has proven himself as an exceptional and strategic leader and I’m excited to partner with him as our provider-sponsored health plan’s chief executive,” says Jackson.

Launched in 2014, today Sutter Health Plus serves more than 80,000 members in 15 Northern California counties. Its provider network includes 30 hospitals, 12 walk-in care facilities, dozens of urgent care centers, and more than 7,000 providers.
