The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) updated its recommendations to now include the new COVID-19 vaccine for this year’s fall and winter virus season. The vaccine is recommended for everyone 6 months and older.

According to the CDC, the virus that causes COVID-19 is always changing, and over time, the vaccine’s effectiveness declines. Health experts believe the latest vaccines will provide the best level of protection against the COVID-19 variants currently circulating. It is especially important to be up to date on vaccines during this time of year when families and friends prepare to gather for fall holidays and celebrations.

COVID-19 Vaccine Appointments
Sutter Health Plus covers COVID-19 vaccines for our members, including additional doses or booster shots, even when administered out-of-network. The Sutter Health Plus network of providers offers vaccinations and boosters at multiple locations across Northern California. Members can check appointment availability and minimum age requirements through:

• My Health Online or by calling (844) 987-6115. Vaccinations are by appointment only. Initial appointment availability may be limited in some areas.
• Network pharmacies, such as a CVS, Rite Aid or Walgreens (call ahead to check availability). Find a pharmacy here.
• A primary care physician or pediatrician — ask about getting the COVID-19 vaccine at the next visit.

COVID-19 At-home Tests
The federal government is offering another round of four free COVID-19 tests to all U.S. households as COVID-19 hospitalizations continue to rise across the country. To place an order for free COVID-19 rapid tests delivered directly to the home, visit covid.gov/tests.
