Sutter Health Plus Reaches 50,000 Members Milestone

Sutter Health Plus is excited to announce that following another year of strong membership growth, the not-for-profit HMO reached its 50,000 members milestone in December 2016.

Sutter Health Plus is an important part of Sutter Health’s overall strategy to transform health care in Northern California. When it launched in 2014, there were only a handful of members—3,894. As popularity for the plan grew, Sutter Health Plus membership expanded to nearly 30,000 members in 2015, with another 20,000 members joining in 2016.

Initially launched in the Greater Sacramento and Central Valley in 2014, the HMO took its first step into the Bay Area when it added Sonoma County in March 2015, and later expanded into Alameda, Contra Costa, San Francisco, San Mateo and Santa Clara counties.

Today, the health plan’s service area includes 14 Northern California counties, 25 hospitals and more than 5,000 providers. An estimated 80 percent of members are new Sutter Health patients, who know the value of affordable, quality care in their own communities. More new enrollees and returning members select Sutter Health Plus, demonstrating it is delivering a high-value product that meets their health care needs.

Sutter Health Plus is well-positioned to continue its momentum of growth and opportunity in Northern California as it welcomes Phil Jackson, new CEO of Health Plan Products, in January 2017.
