Sutter Health CEO of Health Plan Products Phil Jackson recently participated in the “Bending the Cost Curve—for Reals This Time” panel discussion at the 2017 Northern California State of Reform Health Policy Conference in Sacramento.

The 2017 State of Reform Health Policy Conference brought together over 200 senior health care leaders and policy makers to share ideas about how to improve California’s health care system. Keynote topics included The Next Steps on Federal Reform; Leading California through Transition in Healthcare; and Reform We Can Believe in During a Time of Trump.

Jackson spoke about the importance of designing care models centered on patient and human needs. “We can’t approach the delivery of health care as ‘one size fits all,’” he said. “We need to have a strategy that involves everyone and engages the patient.”

“We also have to address social issues, such as housing, education, and nutrition,” Jackson continued.

On the value of health care organizations partnering with the community, Jackson said, “Community partnership and engagement is critical. Health systems have to be creative and find new approaches to solving long-standing challenges.”

State of Reform is a stakeholder-driven initiative that tries to bridge the gap between the worlds of health care and health policy. For more information, visit stateofreform.com.
