Is a Video Visit Right for You?

Posted by on Apr 13, 2021 in Access, Digital Health, Health and Wellness

Between balancing work, caring for others, and taking time for yourself, it can sometimes be inconvenient to visit a healthcare provider’s office for an in-person appointment. If you have limited mobility or live in a rural area, it may prove even more challenging. In many cases, a video visit for everyday health needs, advice, or follow-up care can be a quick, convenient alternative to making the trip for an in-person visit.

Video visits are covered at the same cost share a member would pay for an equivalent in-person visit, or lower depending on plan design, when provided by a participating provider for a covered benefit.

Video Visits with a Sutter Walk-In Care Clinician
Through My Heath Online, Sutter Health Plus members can schedule a same-day video visit with a Sutter Walk-In Care clinician through a smartphone, tablet, or personal computer from the comfort of home. Same-day video visits with a Sutter provider are available daily for members 18 months of age or older from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.; holiday hours may vary.

Same-day Care for Common Conditions
With a same-day video visit with a Sutter Walk-In Care clinician, members can access care for common, everyday health needs. During a video visit, clinicians can diagnose, treat, and prescribe medications for a variety of common health conditions and illnesses. Sometimes, the provider may direct a member to a more appropriate level of care, such as in-person care at their PCP’s office, urgent care, or an emergency room.

Same-day video visits can address many non-urgent, minor health conditions, including:

  • Allergies
  • Cough or Cold
  • Fever
  • Flu
  • Rashes
  • Respiratory Problems
  • Sinus Infection
  • Sore Throat

Video Visits with a PCP
Many participating PCPs, including pediatricians, offer video visits for members to access care for most of their needs—from routine care to complex health issues. Participating PCPs’ hours may vary, and video visit appointments may not be available same day. Members should check My Health Online to see if their provider offers video visits.
