Be Prepared and Take Action This Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Posted by on Oct 2, 2018 in News, Wellness

Starting at age 40, women are encouraged to consider starting routine breast cancer screening.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, when the cause of fighting and preventing this all-too-common disease deserves special attention.

Breast cancer screening can help find breast cancer early, when it’s easier to treat and before it is likely big enough to feel or cause symptoms, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. With over 200,000 new cases expected this year, breast cancer is the nation’s most common type of cancer, according to the National Cancer Institute.

Sutter Health Plus covers routine preventive services, including mammograms, at no out-of-pocket cost for members when authorized by their medical group and primary care physician. We encourage you to read “Partnering for Your Best Health” to learn what screenings the U.S. Preventive Task Force recommends—and when.

While cancer is never completely preventable, we hope to inspire action. Preventive services may lead to early detection and with it, better outcomes. Starting at age 40, women are encouraged to consider starting routine breast cancer screening. Talk to your doctor about what’s right for you.
