Sutter Health’s CEO of Health Plan Products, Phil Jackson, delivered remarks Monday at the World Health Care Congress (WHCC) in Washington, D.C. The 15th annual event gathered over 1,500 leaders from across the nation to discuss innovative methods of transforming the health care industry. Three industry publications quoted Jackson in articles featuring his keynote panel discussion: Make Value-Based Care a Reality.

An American Journal of Managed Care article, The US Cannot Afford to Put Off the Move to Value-Based Care Any Longer, Panelists Say, centered around the shift in care delivery. According to Jackson, capitation provides an opportunity—the providers are accountable for a population and the payment incentivizes them to think creatively about how they deliver care.

HR Drive published, To fix a ‘broken’ healthcare system, employers need to be proactive, quoting Jackson, “We need a much a faster transformation,” citing a need for measures like walk-in clinics and workplace visits as new ways to deliver care and educate consumers.

A piece in Healthcare Informatics, At the World Health Care Congress, a Probing Discussion of the Shift Towards Value, featured an extended quote on meeting patients where they are. “I used to work with a guy who talked about the ‘tyranny of the office visit,’ where you have to drive to a physician office, drive, and try to find a parking space, for a 15-minute doctor visit,” Jackson said. “So we’re trying to stratify the service to fit what patients need, including their quality of life.”
