Sutter Health Plus Honored at The HEAL Project Open House

Posted by on Feb 24, 2017 in Community

Sutter Health Plus was recognized as a contributing donor to The HEAL Project at an open house held in February 2017 at the Hatch Elementary School garden in Half Moon Bay. Parents, students, donors and school staff attended the event held to thank supporters for their contributions.

In honor of the occasion, the students voted to name the newly renovated 5,000 square foot area “The Garden Classroom.”

The HEAL Project provides health, environmental and agricultural education for underserved elementary school children. The $43,000 donation in 2016 from Sutter Health Plus helped rebuild The HEAL Project garden when it was dug up in 2015 to make room for expansion of the school parking lot.

Some of the funds are also helping to open a new garden at another school site, provide a new weekly fresh fruit and vegetable tasting class, build student seating and an irrigation system, and purchase plants for the garden.

“As a not-for-profit organization, Sutter Health Plus has a charitable mission to enhance the well-being of the communities it serves,” says Monica Majors, vice president of sales and marketing. “We are honored to help The HEAL Project make this valuable hands-on learning experience available to more disadvantaged children in Half Moon Bay.”
